Baptism
Baptism is the first step in joining the church! It a sacrament and beautiful beginning to a lifelong journey of faith in Jesus Christ. All infants, children, and adults are welcome at St. Charles to receive this beautiful and life-giving sacrament! If you are an adult looking to be baptized, refer to the parish’s RCIA (Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults) which may be found under Becoming Catholic under Love Christ. If you have a child you wish to baptize, your first step is to please contact Elizabeth Thompson, Pastoral Associate, at 262-367-6704 for more information on how to start the baptism process.
Baptism is a critical part of a child’s life as it is the beginning of their personal relationship with Christ. As parents baptizing a child, the task of culturing this faith goes far beyond the sacrament of baptism. Parents must lead children to God by example. Dedication to the faith and to the Lord is an endeavor best approached as a family. Spiritual growth is often prompted and inspired by loved ones. As your child matures, growing in the charisms received through baptism, they will look to you for guidance in developing their spiritual habits!
As you prepare your child for baptism, consider in prayer your choice of Godparents. This is more than an honorary choice. The position of Godparent is a station within the Catholic Church. A Godparent serves as a spiritual leader and guide for your child. Your choice of Godparent must be a practicing Catholic who attends Mass regularly, is over 17 years of age, and has received all three sacraments of initiation (Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation), and who is not the child’s parent. If the Godparent is not from the same parish, a Godparent Letter of Reference must be requested from St. Charles to be signed by the priest of the Godparent’s parish.
