Maria joined the St. Charles Parish Staff in her current position back in February of 2015, and she was on staff before that from 2010-2011 when LifeTeen first came to St. Charles. Fr. Ken hired Maria to start and direct the 6pm Praise Group and now returns to direct the Teen Praise Group and coach St. Charles Cantors and Psalmists.
She graduated with a Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2009. While at school there, she attained extensive knowledge of liturgical music as an Assistant Director of Music at St. Paul’s University Catholic Center. In fact, when the Evangelical Catholic was in its first years in Madison, Maria led worship for the first two Evangelical Catholic Institutes! These things and more developed a passion in her heart and high standards for liturgical music.
Maria has called St. Charles home since she was a young girl attending the school and receiving the sacraments. Her faith grew in high school as she traveled to Rome and sang for Saint Pope John Paul II. Throughout her time at St. Pauls in Madison, Maria fell more deeply in love with Catholicism and was exposed to Contemporary Music in mass. A few years later, as a newlywed in the Twin Cities, Maria & her husband sang with the Twin Cities Catholic Chorale, who performed full high masses weekly for mass in the Extraordinary Form. This experience with Sacred Music, although drastically different than what she’d previously encountered, solidified Maria’s love for the liturgy and the various forms of music that enhance it.
